Frugal Academic Digital Entrepreneurship (FADE)
Frugal Academic Digital Entrepreneurship (FADE) is a capacity-building initiative of TCC-CIMET focused on digital commercialisation, research valorisation, and academic spin-out development. The program is designed to support researchers, academics, and innovators in transforming research outputs, data, and intellectual assets into viable digital products, services, and enterprises.
FADE equips participants with practical entrepreneurial and digital skills to identify market opportunities, validate ideas, and develop frugal, scalable business models suited to resource-constrained contexts. The program emphasizes the use of digital tools, platforms, and emerging technologies to reduce costs, accelerate market entry, and maximize social and economic impact.
Through structured training, mentorship, and hands-on workshops, participants are guided through key stages of the innovation-to-market pathway, including intellectual property awareness, business model development, digital product design, customer discovery, and go-to-market strategies. Special attention is given to supporting academic spin-outs by bridging the gap between research institutions and industry.
By fostering an entrepreneurial mindset within academia, FADE strengthens research impact, promotes knowledge transfer, and contributes to the creation of sustainable digital enterprises that address real-world challenges while advancing inclusive innovation and economic development.
